At a few pages short of a hundred, Brian Francis ' Inconceivable is packed full of entertainment value as well as heartfelt introspection. Never shy about expressing lifelong gratitude to, admiration of, and affection for family members, friends, and colleagues, Mr. Francis has been a beloved leader at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for decades. As one of the agency's most successful and enduring Executive Directors, Mr. Francis has long realized that good leadership is more about being a facilitator than "boss." Most significantly, Mr. Francis reminds us through his collection of essays that fulfillment of any kind is about building and sustaining relationships whether professionally or personally, hopefully both. Thank you, sir, for conceiving and sharing Inconceivable, an intriguing concept and highly enjoyable read with life lessons for us all!

Even though I was very familiar with Brian Francis’s work as an inspirational and hands-on leader in state government, I was intrigued by this book title and concept. I’m a huge movie and pop culture buff, so the idea of taking well-known quotes and looking at them through a leader- ship lens was right in my wheelhouse. I’m also always on the lookout for new and different ways to communicate leadership concepts to my own staff.

I’m familiar with most of the quotes in the book, but I had never thought about them as leadership lessons or prompts. And that’s the real power of this book. It helps you see the working world in a new way, and it gives you new insights into how to be a better leader.

The book is a quick and easy read, but it’s also packed with valuable information. Brian does a great job of explaining the leadership lessons behind each quote, and he provides real-world examples of how they can be applied. As Shrek might have said, this book “has layers” that will reveal themselves through repeated reading and use.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is currently in a leadership role, or who aspires to be a leader in the future.

I absolutely LOVE the book, Inconceivable, by Brian Francis. What a refreshing take on leadership. Not to mention, I love how Brian uses common quotes from our favorite shows and movies to reference specific topics and nuances we need to lean into more as transformational leaders. The analogy Brian draws from the quotes delivers bite-size, power-packed nuggets of insights and wisdom we ALL can learn from. I truly recommend this as a must-read to add to your leadership toolkit.
